An introduction to Website Content
Web pages are a presentation of information (your content) which can be presented in carefully chosen media most appropriate for your content. Webpages can be static or dynamic, meaning that the content is the same each time someone visits the webpage or is taken from a database which is updated with new content.
For example if a webpage, say the homepage, had a "news" area describing current news in relation to a company or event, then when a new news item came up or expired, new news item would appear and old news item disappear from the news section on the homepage.
Your content and its presentation is the most important part of your website. It is what people visit and hopefully recommend your website for. Your websites content can be presented in many forms, the most common and accessible being text and graphics. The way we present your content largely depends on your target audience. For example a website aimed at blind or partially sighted people is going to be a non-visual website making best use of text (which can be heard using a text to audio web browser), spoken word and sound.
Examples of media that can be use in your website
Text, Pictures, Animation, Photos, Video, Sound
Files such as PDF, Word documents and Powerpoint presentations can be made available for download as they cant be displayed as part of a website without the user downloading a plug-in. We try to avoid anything that involves the downloading of a plug-in as this disrupts the users experience and can often lead to people leaving the website since they do not have the time or patient to sit through a download.
You may wish to keep some content private, especially if it is of a sensitive nature e.g. Medical discussions or personal details. In this case we can create password protected areas of your website.
If you need to edit or add new webpages on a regular basis it would soon become expensive to commission us or anyone else to do so. In this case you would need a content management system.
To go with your content we can provide you at no extra cost if necessary, a privacy statement (necessary if you are going to collect information from users e.g. a mailing list), a copyright notice and a disclaimer. If you want surety of legal cover you should always get these documents approved by a lawyer or solicitor.
