What are Domain names?
Domain names are the like postal address. They lead to a particular destination. Domain names (also known as "web addresses", URL's and IP's) are typed into your browsers address bar or clicked on from another website, displaying the website that the domain name is associated with.
It's no good having a website without a domain name; how is anyone going find you without an address?
Every domain name has an extension or TLD (top level domain), this describes what kind of website the domain points too, and/or in which country the company or service is based or written for.
An example of an TLD is ".com" or ".co.uk" or ".org".
An example of an entire domain name is "www.phizzie.co.uk"
The top level TLD's are ".com", ".net" and ".org". These are generic and do not describe a country or geographical location. They are the most commonly used TLD's with world wide web and global appeal.
It is highly recommended that you register at least one of, if not all, of the top levels TLD's.
ccTDL's (country code TDL's) refer to a particular country and examples of ccTDL's are:
You may wish to register a ccTLD domain names if you have a website written specifically for a particular country. For example if you only trade in the Germany consider registering your domain name with the ".ge" ccTLD.
Please note: registration of ccTLD's are regulated by the governing body in each country and many have strict acceptance policies, so unless you are an established business in a chosen country it is less likely that you will be able to register a domain name for that country. Local tax ID and physical addresses in the country are often required as a minimum.
Every domain name is unique. There can never be two domain names the same. This is why it is important to register your chosen domains before anyone else does. Even if you do not intend to implement your website in the near future, it is highly recommended you register your chosen business or website name to avoid it being taken. If you do not you are at risk of "cybersquatting".
We can register any number of domain names for you and park them without you having to have a website. When a parked domain name is typed into a browser, a temporary page is displayed, which could detail your business details or a "This website is coming soon" notice.
If you intend to implement your website in the near future, we will register your domain names and hosting service at the same time, allowing immediate development of your site.
